Ruth Truth 1: Do not make permanent decisions during temporal situations.
The book of Ruth is one of the most beautiful stories in the Bible and rightly so. There are many nuggets of truth in those 4 chapters. However my focus will be to collate some thoughts as they relate to money and investing.
Let's start from the beginning!
Ruth 1:1-2 says there was a famine in the land. They originally lived in a place called Bethlehem, which means "House of Bread". (interestingly, the Bread of Life, Jesus, would in future, come from the House of Bread!) Unfortunately, Elimelech and Naomi, decided to leave and move to Moab. That is a major decision to make in those days because Moab was not always friendly to the Jews. Unfortunately, Elimelech and his 2 sons, died in Moab.
Do you know that famines are not permanent? They might last for a few years and during those years it might FEEL like the famine will never end, but THEY ALWAYS DO. The Great Depression, The World Wars, Plagues, COVID? They always end.
Unfortunately E&N had made a major, permanent decision during a temporal situation. They had decided to move out of the land God had given them, into enemy territory.
My point is this. COVID is a major setback for many people. But my encouragement is to not make major decisions rashly, especially ones that will have a long lasting impact. Remain in the House of Bread that God has provided for you.
It might seem like the markets have already recovered and you have missed the boat. Or you had sold out at the lows in panic. Don't worry. There will always be opportunities, my personal experience has been to come across 1 or 2 per year.
